We sign up with Hivelocity VPS paln back in 2008 when one of our website was hit by a ddos attack somewhere in Asia. Before we went ahead and sign up with them we asked the Hivelocity’s support/sale about our situation regarding the ddos attack and if they would be able to help us. Their support/sale man said yes, they could help us with our ddos attack.

The initial sign up involved scanning one of our driver license and send it off to Hivelocity and we had to made the first month payment about $50 USD. Once we change our web sites’ DNS and transfer all of our files to Hivelocity server we were immediately attack by the ddos. We were now contacting their support tech about the problem and their solution was to upgrade us to a dedicated server. However, we didn’t get a refund for the $50 USD we paid and we were only with them no more than 2 weeks to try them out. There is no money back guarantee with Hivelocity. So keep that in mind. In the other hand, we tested out Hivelocity server and find that our other websites that were not hit by the ddos attack were running very fast, uploading/downloading files and loading web pages were very quick.

Anyways, we had to move out all of our web sites to another hosting provider called HostGator on their shared account at $9.99 per month. Which cost much lesser than Hivelocity VPS plan and we went with HostGator because there is the 30 days money back guarantee. There was nothing for us to loss. Once we transfer all of our files and waited for our DNS to propagated. We notice our ddos attack problem on one of our website does not happen on HostGator’s server, maybe their datacenter automatically block out the ddos attacks? or one of their technician saw it and manually fixed it? We never know because we never had to submit any support ticket to tell them about our problem. So yea, HostGator saved one of our site from ddos attack, without HostGator we would have still be moving to other hosting providers with our ddos attack problem.

Everything is good with Hivelocity, server speed is good, tech support can take from 10 min – 2 hours. Not sure about the security but it didn’t work out on our end.
